The AAS-in-Asia Conference 2025 marks a significant milestone in fostering scholarly collaboration and dialogue in Asian studies. Organized jointly by the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) and Nepal’s Social Science Baha (SSB), the conference will be held in the vibrant city of Kathmandu, Nepal, bringing together scholars, researchers, and professionals from across the globe. The theme of the conference reflects the rich cultural and intellectual heritage of Nepal while exploring critical contemporary issues shaping Asia today. This unique platform offers an opportunity to delve into interdisciplinary discussions, engage with thought leaders, and experience the dynamic interplay of history, society, and culture in Asia.
ABOUT ASSOCIATION FOR ASIAN STUDIES
Founded in 1941, Association for Asian Studies (AAS) is a scholarly, non-political, non-profit professional association open to all person interested in Asia and the study of Asia. With approximately 6,500 members worldwide, representing all the regions and countries of Asia and all academic disciplines, the AAS is the largest organization of its kind. For 80 years, the AAS has held an annual conference each spring in North America. Open to all individuals holding an interest in Asian Studies, this annual meeting brings over 3,300 Asianists together to present and discuss the latest research in the field. Academics, university faculty, graduate students, and more attend over 400 panel sessions, book exhibition, and film screenings, and partake in multiple networking and social functions.
In 2014, the AAS expanded its worldwide reach and developed the AAS-in-Asia conference to give our members and individuals based outside of North America the opportunity to participate in an Asia-based conference. Although smaller in size, these conferences include the same exciting features as the Annual Conference, including sessions, keynote speakers, workshops, book exhibits, and receptions.
ABOUT SOCIAL SCIENCE BAHA
Established in 2002, Social Science Baha (SSB) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enhancing the study and research of social sciences in Nepal. Beyond setting up Nepal’s first and only dedicated social science library, SSB’s activities range from conducting research to publishing research papers and books and organizing lectures, workshops, and conferences. SSB also hosts the Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya. SSB’s contributions to advancing social science research have been transformative, and by hosting renowned scholars and facilitating critical discourse, SSB has become a cornerstone of academic engagement in Nepal.

The exhibition areas of the AAS-in-Asia 2025 will be in Radisson Hotel Kathmandu and Hotel Manaslu, two of the conference hotels. The locations are also highly visible and designed to attract conference participants.
The placement of the booths has been planned to maximize exhibitors’ exposure to conference participants.
